Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

I ordered and paid for a Contender Reachables Peach Tree, deluxe version, from Gurney's Seed and Nursery back on 11/01/21 and the stated expected delivery was to be between 02/28/22 and 03/14/22. But it didn't arrive until, 05/21/22, and was smashed to pieces, with the trunk sticking OUT of the completely intact box and was broken in three places. FedEx was not at fault, but instead this was due to incompetent packing. Inside the box was the remainder of the totally mangled tree, a lot of torn up white paper, ripped off leaves, loose dirt and a couple of loose air pillows. What a heartbreak. I immediately called Gurney's and was told they were out of stock for the year and that I could ONLY have a store credit, which infuriated me. After threatening to write multiple horrible postings about Gurney's, the CSR said for "one time only" she would grant me a credit back to my major credit card even though they had had my full payment for nearly seven months. This total fiasco is not directly the fault of Gurney's Seed & Nursery, but it is definitely the fault of their third-party shipper, Gardens Alive in Fairfield, Ohio. Be aware plant lovers, this horrible company ships for many

Gardens Alive seems to fulfill for other merchants or has a number of DBA names. My order was with Farmer Seed and Nursery at the same address, as youβll see in the photo. I placed two orders a couple weeks apart. The first order I placed, I still had received nothing and it had not shipped and there were no updates on it, a month later. This was a large order of 250 strawberry plants and other items. I went through my credit card to get a refund for that order after customer service was unhelpful. The second order I placed before I realized they werenβt shipping all orders. This one, however, was fulfilled, albeit after I canceled and received my refund from the first order. Two of the three items I ordered are alive and well, though they were no longer dormant when they got here - hostas and King Kong strawberry crowns. The rhubarb, however, seems DOA - dead as it had already sprouted prior to arrival and then died without water and nutrients. The roots are soft and dry.

My order was placed 4/28/2019. Nothing was backordered and no plants. Just insecticides. I emailed 5/4 for status I called 5/6 to complain and was told my order will be expedited and to expect it in two days 5/7 I got a response on my email saying "estimated shipping date is 05.09.19" 5/9 No shipping notice so I called and the person said I would not receive my order till mid May. I told them I no longer want anything to do with Garden's Alive and to stop shipment. Then they changed their response to say I will be getting my order in two days. I called them out and they tried to cover with more lies. VERY VERY unhappy with the service and support. I use to order from Gardens Alive all the time. NEVER AGAIN!
